According to a report from Calciomercato yesterday, Liverpool still have Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in their thoughts and could make an attempt to sign him in a few months.
Calciomercato also state that this potential transfer is being considered with Virgil van Dijk’s injury in mind.
The Netherlands international recently underwent successful knee surgery, and while no timeframe has been placed on his return, the severity of his injury is likely to keep him out for months.
If Jurgen Klopp does manage to sign Koulibaly in January, it wouldn’t be a bad way to replace his colossal centre-back.
The Senegal international – a national teammate of Sadio Mane – is regarded as one of Europe’s best centre-backs.

According to Sky Sports, the 29-year-old was Manchester City’s primary defensive target in the summer as they looked to replace Vincent Kompany.
However, Sky Sports‘ report states that Koulibaly’s price tag was too far out of reach for Pep Guardiola, and the defender eventually stayed in Naples.
The former Genk player – who has been playing in the Europa League with Napoli so far this season – is definitely needed at Anfield.

Klopp’s backline has become extremely stretched, so much so that academy graduate Nathaniel Phillips had to make his Premier League debut against West Ham.
Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Fabinho were all missing through injury.
