Premier League champions Liverpool could be tempted to sell Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi in the January transfer window, as reported by ESPN.

You might have noticed that Jurgen Klopp seems a little miffed right now.

With the usually charismatic German becoming rather ‘Jose-esque’ in front of the cameras of late, rarely missing an opportunity to bemoan a relentless series of injuries, it would be a surprise if Liverpool decided to sell two useful squad members in the midst of a packed fixture schedule.

But would Liverpool really miss Origi, in particular?

The Belgium international will always have a place in the hearts of Reds fans thanks to those crucial Champions League strikes en route to a sixth European crown. But Origi has not come close to replicating those heroics since that famous night in Madrid.

He has played just one minute of Premier League football this term and failed to impress during a rare start in last week’s home defeat to Atalanta; the first time Liverpool have lost at Anfield by more than one goal since 2015.

Shaqiri has fared a little better – but not by much.

The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan winger has just 51 minutes of Premier League football to his name, despite producing a match-winning assist against West Ham in October during one cameo appearance.

“Shaq played in midfield! He did well – he stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes – absolutely incredible,” Klopp told BeIN of the Swiss international recently.

Both Shaqiri and Origi have slipped behind Diogo Jota in the pecking order and ESPN believes they could be sold to raise funds for a new defender.
