Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are open to selling Joe Gomez, but it would need ‘a big offer’ for the Reds to consider an exit for the defender, according to The Athletic.

The report has claimed that Liverpool hope that Gomez, linked with a number of clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, will stay and sign a new contract.

However, the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners ‘know he wants to play more regularly but it would take a big offer for them to even consider selling’, according to the report.

The Telegraph have reported interest from Steven Gerrard’s Villa in Gomez, while The Express claimed in March that Tottenham, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Fulham all are eyeing the 25-year-old England international defender, described as “exceptional” by Liverpool manager Klopp in The Mirror in October 2021.

Should Liverpool sell Joe Gomez?

In our opinion, Liverpool should not sell Joe Gomez unless the defender himself indicates that he wants to leave and a big offer comes in.

Now, we know that the Reds are well stocked in defence.

Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are brilliant defenders, while Ibrahima Konate did well last season when he played.

However, Liverpool will be aiming to win the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup next season.

So, in our view, the Merseyside club will need a big squad with depth in each and every position.
