According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have a plan to beat Barcelona to the signing of Atlético Madrid maestro Saul Niguez.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Jürgen Klopp could sacrifice Xherdan Shaqiri in an attempt to bring the Spaniard to Anfield.
Mundo Deportivo believe Liverpool have already signalled their intention to put €40m (£34.6m) on the table.
However, Atlético Madrid deem that sum insufficient.
Interestingly, Mundo Deportivo state that Shaqiri was in Atlético Madrid’s sights during his time at FC Basel.
In that respect, perhaps the Spanish champions will be swayed by a player-plus-cash deal involving the £80,000-a-week Swiss star.
Saul Niguez would surely welcome a move to Liverpool

You might not know that Saul Niguez is a huge Steven Gerrard fan.
The 26-year-old has admitted that he loves the former Liverpool captain.
Saul Niguez has even claimed he tries to work on his game to make himself look like Gerrard out on the pitch.
As the Liverpool Echo point out, he has even copied Gerrard’s shirt number journey.

Saul Niguez has worn No.28, No.17 and No.8 for Atlético Madrid.
As you’ll know, Gerrard also wore No.28, No.17 and No.8 in the exact same order during his Liverpool days.
Saul Niguez could become that bit more like his idol with a move to Anfield, something that will presumably tempt him.
