According to Eurosport, Liverpool could make a move for RB Salzburg central defender Maximilian Wober.

It has been reported that if Liverpool decide to enter the transfer market in January for a central defender, then Wober is an option they could pursue.

Sporting Braga’s David Carmo and Sven Botman of Lille have also been named as potential options for manager Jurgen Klopp in the January transfer window in the report.

Liverpool ‘connection’

Wober is a player Liverpool fans will be aware of. The 22-year-old central defender played against the Reds in the Champions League last season.

The Austria international is also a former teammate of Takumi Minamino, who joined Liverpool from Salzburg in January 2020.

Good signing for Liverpool?

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term injury absentees, while Joel Matip is also on the sidelines at the moment.

The Merseyside outfit could do with a new centre-back in January, and Wober – who became the most expensive player in the Austrian Bundesliga when Salzburg signed him for £10 million from Sevilla in the summer of 2019, as reported by talkSPORT – could be a good addition to the squad at the right price.

The 22-year-old is young and talented, and given his experience in the Champions League, he could slot in nicely at Anfield.

However, when Van Dijk and Gomez are back to full fitness, with the likes of Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips already part of the first team, there could be a case of too many centre-backs for Klopp.
