Italian outlet CMW claim that Liverpool could table a £60million bid to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella in the January transfer window – with Inter now open to sale of the Italy international in the next couple of windows.
Barella, 25, joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2019 – initially on loan Cagliari. A move was made permanent in 2020, and he has since been the heartbeat of Inter’s midfield. He has clocked up a total of 140 appearances for Inter Milan.
Regarded as one of the best midfielders in Italian football and now a regular for his country, Barella is a target for the Reds. Inter were against selling him in the summer, but are now said to be open to his exit in the summer of 2023.
However, the report also states that Inter want as much as £60million for Barella. They bought him for less than half of that figure. The report also claims that Liverpool might not wait until next summer, and could make a January move.

What a signing Barella would be. Liverpool have temporarily solved their midfield crisis by bringing in Arthur on loan from Juventus. The Reds do have a permanent clause in the Brazilian’s contract. But is he the long-term solution?
Or was he signed as a stop gap? The Reds are without Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago through injury. Jordan Henderson was missing from the clash against Everton. Arthur solves that issue.
But if he is only seen as a short-term replacement for the injured players, then a player like Barella would be ideal next summer. A player that can change a game, score goals and create them. A real workhorse. £60million is a bargain.
