Marcelo Brozovic has been linked to Liverpool on and off in recent years.
The speculation has never been quite as intense as the Reds’ reported pursuit of other long-time targets, like Jadon Sancho or a Timo Werner for example.
But every so often, the rumour mill churns out the Brozovic to Liverpool thing.
And it’s just happened again as 90 Min report that the Anfield club could go back for the Inter Milan midfielder.
The report claims that Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich are among those most in the race to sign the Croatia international.
But 90 Min add that Liverpool could enter the race ‘at a later date’.
And it might just have legs on this occasion, because with Jurgen Klopp chasing Thiago Alcantara, it shows that they’re in the market for a midfielder.
If the Spaniard can’t be signed – and the Reds and Bayern are reportedly at an impasse with regards to transfer talks – then the Premier League champions could look to alternative targets.
And with the 27-year-old – who earns £90,000 per week in Milan – being a similar player to the former Barcelona ace, maybe this is the year that Brozovic to Merseyside finally makes sense.
During lockdown, when every player turned to hosting Q & A sessions on their Instagrams, here’s what Inter team-mate Romelu Lukaku said about the World Cup finalist: “If I went to war and had to carry someone with me, I would choose him. Great personality, so much quality.”
He certainly sounds like someone who Klopp and Liverpool fans would like, so it’ll be interesting to see if a failed move for Thiago results in genuine interest in Brozovic.
