According to The Athletic, Nat Phillips could still end up leaving Liverpool on transfer deadline day.

Phillips has linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, and with just hours to go in the window, club officials at Liverpool are expecting offers to come in for their centre-back.

To be honest, selling Phillips now may be a wise move for the Reds. His stock is still relatively high from last season when he finished third in the club’s Player of the Season voting.

However, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all returning from injury alongside the addition of Ibrahima Konate, Phillips has plummeted down the pecking order at Anfield, and now he could be sold.

Where he ends up remains to be seen. Burnley have been credited with an interest, as have Brighton, so those are two possible destinations, but we can imagine there are plenty of Premier League clubs who wouldn’t mind bringing Phillips in.

If the defender does leave, he will go down as a true cult hero after his performances towards the back end of last season, and his progression over the past 12 months just goes to show that anything is possible with the right attitude and hard work.
