Liverpool are now finalising a deal to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, the Athletic report.
Liverpool are thought to be very close to landing the central defender in what is being described as the Premier League’s first ‘major’ summer signing.
Konate has a £34 million release clause built into his contract at Leipzig, which Liverpool may choose to activate.
The Reds have struggled with central defensive injuries all season, but Jurgen Klopp’s side appear to have moved ahead of schedule to tie up a deal before the summer transfer window even opens.
Although there is still work to be done, Liverpool are thought to be closing in on the transfer of the 21-year-old.

It is clear to see why Konate has been targeted by Liverpool too.
The Leipzig man possesses great speed and is very comfortable in possession.
With Leipzig playing a high line he should need very little time to adapt to Liverpool’s defensive system either.
His arrival will see him compete with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk for a starting place at Anfield, when the pair return from injury.
