Liverpool are closing in on a deal to bring Stoke City’s Jack Butland to Anfield this summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are getting close to completing a £40 million deal to bring Jack Butland in from Stoke City during the summer.

Despite the Potters currently fighting to keep themselves in the Premier League, Butland’s stock has risen once again and the Mirror reports that he is set to be in contention to be England’s number one at this summer’s World Cup.

The Reds are plotting a summer move for the stopper, and the Mirror reports that they are set to see off the challenge of Arsenal for his signature with the 24-year-old expressing more desire to make the move to Anfield and work with Jurgen Klopp.

If he does sign for £40 million, Butland would become the world’s most expensive goalkeeper with Stoke determined not to let him go on the cheap given how important he has been for them in recent years.

Is Butland the answer for Reds?

Liverpool’s goalkeeper situation has been talked about for as long as Klopp has been manager it seems, with neither Simon Mignolet or Loris Karius continually showing the form over a prolonged period that suggests that either could be the number one for a side battling for the title.

Butland has been impressive throughout his Premier League career and Klopp perhaps feels that he could be the missing piece in the jigsaw if he was to make the move to Merseyside.

He would definitely have something to prove however – especially if he became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper – having often played behind defences that leave him with plenty to do. The Reds are not the finished article at the back just yet, but there would be an increased amount of scrutiny on his performances given the expectation that exists at Anfield.
