Liverpool are reportedly on the fence about handing a new contract to Mohamed Salah based on the attacker’s age.
According to the Mirror, the Reds are ‘cautious’ on offering the winger a fresh deal with Salah turning 29 this summer. The Liverpool star’s current contract expires in 2023, which would make the forward 31.
Whilst Liverpool have handed long-term deals to the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson in recent months, the club seem reluctant to match what Salah is demanding. The ex-AS Roma star has been in blistering form this campaign.
Salah has bagged nine goals and three assists in all competitions. The attacker has arguably been the best player in the Premier League this season, and the 29-year-old could again be key to Liverpool’s title challenge should he remain fit.
Indeed, based on current form, it seems almost stupid that Liverpool won’t offer Salah a new contract. After all, Henderson and Van Dijk are older than the Egyptian international and both signed new long-term deals with the Reds over the summer.
Moreover, the Dutch international is one of the highest-paid defenders in world football. Meaning that finances would be no issue for Liverpool if they were to offer Salah a new contract.
Liverpool have to offer Salah new contract despite age concerns

Age is of course a realistic factor to take in. But with Salah in the prime of his career and having a relatively injury-free spell with the Reds, it seems almost ridiculous how the club are yet to offer the attacker a new contract as of yet.
With time ticking fast and Salah’s form continuing to improve, Liverpool will have to act fast before other clubs catch wind of the situation surrounding the Premier League star.
