Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ‘refused’ to enterain the prospect of going for now-Tottenham Hotspur player Richarlison during the summer transfer window.

The Anfield outfit completed their business relatively early on during the window and a club-record £85 million signing of Darwin Nunez was by far the Reds’ biggest investment.

However, Nunez wasn’t the only attacking quantity on the Liverpool shortlist.

According to El Pais, Richarlison and new Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min were also in the discussion.

But the report has stated that Klopp only had eyes for the former Benfica hitman, who impressed in a Champions League defeat home and away to the German’s troops during the 2021-22 campaign.

Son is yet to score for Spurs this season but he and Richarlison – who joined Tottenham from Everton for £60 million – are both proven Premier League attackers.

And therefore it took a lot of courage for Klopp to be so adamant on the Uruguay international, who the club’s hierarchy think he made a mistake about signing.

It’s been a difficult start to life in the Premier League for Nunez, who has been suspended for the same amount of games as he’s featured in so far this season, following a red card against Crystal Palace on his home debut in this competition last month.

However, you can see the class is there with Nunez and two goals – including one against Manchester City – is enough evidence at the moment to suggest Klopp made the right decision.
