According to 90Min, Liverpool’s board aren’t prepared to meet Georginio Wijnaldum’s demands for a new deal worth £120,000-a-week.
It’s claimed that Wijnaldum wants to more than double his wages at Anfield, but the Liverpool hierarchy see those demands as ‘steep’.
Liverpool’s current plan is to give Wijnaldum a deal that features lucrative bonuses rather than high wages, and Jurgen Klopp is desperate to keep him.
However, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have allegedly made their interest clear, as they plot to sign Wijnaldum on a free transfer next summer.
Barcelona remain interested in Wijnaldum with his contract expiring next summer, with new boss Ronald Koeman pursuing a reunion having managed him with the Netherlands.
Wijnaldum allegedly prefers to stay at Anfield, but thinks he can make more money by leaving, meaning the Reds really are in danger of losing him.
The 29-year-old has racked up almost 200 appearances for Liverpool since signing from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, becoming one of Klopp’s most important players.
Losing him for nothing would be a major blow for Liverpool, and unless the club’s board budge on their valuation of him, Wijnaldum may well leave for a major European club.
