According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool fended off last-minute competition from Manchester United for the signature of left back Tony Gallacher from Falkirk.

The Reds made headlines early into the transfer window, as they first snapped up Virgil van Dijk in a club-record deal from Southampton, before selling star playmaker Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

Liverpool have been quiet since then, but Jurgen Klopp’s men have pushed through one more deal, with one on the long-term future at Anfield after the deal for Falkirk’s Tony Gallacher.

Liverpool confirmed over the weekend that 18-year-old Gallacher has joined the club from Falkirk, and will immediately head into the club’s development squad as one for the future.

Intriguingly, the Daily Mail claim that Liverpool actually managed to fend off late competition from rivals Manchester United to sign Gallacher, winning the race despite a last-minute attempt from the Red Devils.

United allegedly caught wind of Gallacher’s imminent move to Liverpool and made contact to try and hijack the move, but ultimately came up short as the Reds secured his signature.

It’s claimed that Liverpool’s deal for Gallacher may eventually reach a fee of around £1.2million, with the Reds sealing a move after he impressed in a recent trial spell.
