According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool asked about a deal for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak – but were put off by a huge £36.2million asking price.
The Reds are facing a defensive crisis right now, as Virgil van Dijk has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury and will now likely missed the rest of the season.
Joel Matip is injured too, and with Dejan Lovren sold to Zenit St Petersburg over the summer, Joe Gomez is the only recognised centre back at Anfield.
Fabinho could fill in, or youngsters Sepp van den Berg, Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio may step up, but fans may now be looking for Liverpool to invest in a new defender come January.
It’s now claimed that Liverpool did make contact to try and sign Kabak over the summer, but Schalke demanded a huge £36.2million fee for the centre back, who played for Jurgen Klopp’s best man David Wagner at Schalke.
Liverpool were allegedly scared off by that asking price, and chose not to go back in for him – or for any other centre back for that matter.

Kabak, 20, has impressed in Germany with Stuttgart and Schalke, displaying power and aerial ability to go along with the technical ability and pace to play in Klopp’s style.
He does seem to fit the bill as a player who Liverpool can develop over the coming years, but unless that asking price comes down by January, a move may not materialise.
