According to Goal, Liverpool and Arsenal can now sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa for as little as £10m as we approach Thursday’s 11pm deadline.
What’s the story?
Well, it seems Aston Villa have lowered their asking price for the Brazil international to €12m (£10m), having previously requested £30m for the South American.
However, Luiz has already entered the final 12 months of his contract at Villa Park, so the Villans have now buckled as they fear losing their No.6 for nothing in 2023.
Goal believe Aston Villa will not stand in the midfielder’s way if a respectable offer arrives before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline, with Liverpool considering a move to ease their lack of available options in midfield.
It comes after Arsenal also expressed an interest in Luiz, who is a target for Atlético Madrid as well.
The 24-year-old has made just one start for Aston Villa in the Premier League this season, and was left on the bench for the 2-1 win against Everton.
His time in the Midlands – as an important player for Steven Gerrard, at least – appears to be over, but only time will tell if the Villans recoup some of their initial £15m investment when signing him from Manchester City in 2019.
Liverpool & Arsenal should jump at £10m price tag
In our view, Luiz isn’t good enough to be a regular starter for Liverpool or Arsenal if he isn’t even making the starting XI for Aston Villa.
However, football is most definitely a squad game nowadays with so many fixtures on the schedule, so the chance to add an experienced international to their squads for just £10m should be tempting for Jürgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta.

Luiz has won nine caps for Brazil – which isn’t easy given the talent at Tite’s disposal – while he has also registered 107 Premier League appearances.
At the age of 24, his best years are also still ahead of him – be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we expect further developments if the Brazilian really is available for just £10m.
