Liverpool might be about to do Manchester United a big favour with regards to Darwin Nunez.
Not on purpose, of course.
But it has been reported by The Times that although Liverpool admire the Benfica attacker, they will not be pursuing him.
And this could benefit Manchester United.
According to The Independent this past weekend, Nunez favoured Liverpool over the Red Devils, even though he was prepared to listen to what the latter had to offer.
But with Jurgen Klopp’s side voluntarily exiting the race to sign the £100 million-rated forward, it looks like the Old Trafford outfit may benefit.
Darwin Nunez to Liverpool
This is the sort of transfer that a lot of Reds supporters will have wanted to materialise.
That’s because Sadio Mane is looking certain to leave Liverpool and Klopp is going to need a top-drawer replacement.
And considering how well the Manchester United-linked star performed at Anfield last season in the Champions League, the Uruguay international might’ve been an ideal successor for Mane.
In April, Goal.com reported that the Merseysiders wanted Arnaut Danjuma as a long-term replacement for the former Southampton livewire and it’ll be interesting to see if backing out of the Nunez race leads to increased speculation about the Villarreal winger.
