Liverpool are worried that Thiago Alcantara could join Manchester City, according to Sport Bild.

Liverpool have been chasing Thiago for much of the summer so far, but have failed to get a deal over the line.

The Reds are seemingly reluctant to pay Bayern Munich’s asking price, and their stalling over doing a deal has apparently presented City with a chance.

Pep Guardiola’s side could now swoop to take the Spaniard, as City are keen to add him to their squad.

City’s offer for the £30 million-rated Thiago (Independent) is actually said to be more valuable than Liverpool’s, as things stand, with Reds chiefs concerned that the player could move to the Etihad Stadium.

If Thiago was to join City he would make Liverpool’s main rivals considerably stronger, and could help them close the gap on the Reds.

There is a widespread feeling that Thiago’s arrival at Anfield would improve Jurgen Klopp’s side significantly, but Liverpool appear to be operating on a sell to buy basis.

With Liverpool wanting to keep their current midfield options, they haven’t been able to finance a move for the former Barcelona man yet.

But Klopp’s side may now have to take action, as they don’t want Thiago to be joining City any time soon.
