According to The Athletic, Liverpool are now ready to sell Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino as they close in on the signing of Luis Diaz from Porto.
The Reds are set to bolster their attack in a pretty big way, but when a new star arrives, some players have to slip down the pecking order.
Origi and Minamino haven’t seen much football this season in any case, but with Diaz arriving, it’s fair to say that their opportunities will be even more limited.
Liverpool will have to balance rotation between Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Diaz in their attack, and sadly, there’s simply no place for Minamino or Origi in this team anymore.
It’ll be a real shame to see these two go. Origi is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in the Reds’ recent history – scoring vital goals at vital moments in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Origi has even been called a ‘legend’ by Jurgen Klopp in the past, and that’s a label we simply can’t disagree with.
Meanwhile, Minamino has shown glimpses of promise, but he’s been unable to show his brilliance on a consistent basis.
However, the Japan international is still undoubtedly a talented player. After all, he’s been labelled a ‘great footballer’ by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the past.
Liverpool have to make space for Diaz by selling Origi and Minamino, and they shouldn’t struggle to find any suitors for these two attackers.
