Confusion is growing about the future of reported Liverpool and Wolves target Milot Rashica with Kicker claiming that the £13 million relegation clause in his contract expired on June 15.

Of course, things are a little more complicated here than they seem.

Thanks to Saturday’s crushing 3-1 defeat against Mainz, Bremen are second bottom in the Bundesliga with just one game remaining in the 2019/20 season.

As it stands, Florian Kohfeldt’s side are hanging onto their top-flight status with their fingernails, with even a place in the relegation play-off looking to be beyond their reach.

So the likes of Liverpool, Southampton, Wolves and Aston Villa, all of whom have been linked with Rashica via Der Spiegel and Weser Kurier, must have been sniffing out a bargain.

The Kosovo international has endured a difficult 2020, failing to score a single goal since the turn of the year and seeing his attitude brought into question as his side plummet like a stone.

But his explosive pace and eye for the spectacular means he deserves the chance to prove himself at a higher level.

But, according to Kicker, the £13 million relegation clause in Rashica’s contract is no longer in action.

It expired last week, meaning Werder can now demand a far higher fee for their star man.

Then again, when that June 15 deadline was agreed, the expectation was that the Bundesliga season would have been long-since finished by then. Absolutely nobody saw the global health crisis emerging and forcing the German football season to be pushed back by two months.

As Kicker point out, a legal tussle could be on the horizon. Maybe Rashica will still be available on the cheap after all.
