According to Swiss newspaper Blick, Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Young Boys midfielder Denis Zakaria this summer, with Liverpool also interested.

Zakaria, 20, came up through the ranks with Servette before joining Young Boys in 2015, and that move catapulted the midfielder into the spotlight over in Switzerland.

After just one season with Young Boys, Zakaria was named in the Switzerland squad for Euro 2016, and he has now earned three caps for his country whilst being a regular for his club too.

A powerful holding midfielder who stands at 6ft 3in tall, Zakaria has earned comparisons to former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira – and he now looks primed for a big summer move away from Young Boys.

Swiss newspaper Blick report that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing Zakaria, but they aren’t alone in the race for his signature.

It’s stated that Bundesliga trio Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke are all battling to sign Zakaria, with a fee of €10million (£8.5million) mentioned, which would making him one of Swiss football’s most expensive exports.

Tottenham have been left a little short in central midfield, with Eric Dier dropping back to play in defence and Harry Winks ruled out through injury, with Zakaria potentially being targeted as a player who can develop behind Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama whilst being able to step in for either.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s thin squad has been exposed at times this season, and with Lucas Leiva’s future up in the air, manager Jurgen Klopp may want to bring in Zakaria to beef up his midfield options – but the two Premier League clubs will have to move quickly to land their man.
