Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring teenage West Ham United defender Ajibola Alese, according to The Sun.
Alese is the current captain of England’s Under-16s and West Ham boss Slaven Bilic said to have taken a keen interest in his development.
The 16-year-old has been a regular in the Hammers’ Under-18s this season and has reportedly been pencilled in to play for the Under-23 side before the campaign is out.
However, with Alese only on scholarship forms at the London Stadium, West Ham could be at risk of losing the player, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City said to be a recruitment drive to “beef up” their academies with the best youngsters at home and abroad.
Nevertheless, the Hammers’ impressive track record of youth development could stand in their favour should the so-called bigger clubs make an approach.
Alese isn’t the only West Ham player said to be interesting Liverpool, with Spanish midfielder Pedro Obiang also linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Reds (The Sun).
