Liverpool and Leicester City have been linked with Southampton’s Sam McQueen.
According to The Sun, Liverpool and Leicester City are eyeing a deal for Southampton’s Sam McQueen.
The report claims that the left-back’s future at Southampton is unclear with only 18 months left on his contract, and both Liverpool and Leicester are keen on bringing him in.
McQueen came through the youth ranks at St. Mary’s Stadium and was handed his debut in 2014, appearing in an FA Cup tie before making his Premer League debut in 2016.
The 21-year-old is predominently a left-sided winger, yet this season he has converted to a left-back in the absence of Matt Targett, playing the full 90 minutes in the recent 1-1 draw at Manchester City.
Both Liverpool and Leicester have long-term issues in regards to their left-back slots, what with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp not keen on Alberto Moreno and Leicester’s Christian Fuchs into his thirties.
The Reds have played James Milner out of position at left-back this term, and while he has performed well, it is certainly an area to strengthen and McQueen could well be the ideal candidate.
With Southampton boasting plenty of quality in the full-back areas, McQueen may struggle for regular games once both Ryan Bertrand and Targett return to action from injury.
The talented youngster’s contract with the Saints expires in 18 months, meaning that both Liverpool and Leicester could see a potential opportunity to strike a bargain in the upcoming transfer window.
