The Real Madrid forward is a reported transfer target for both Liverpool and Arsenal, according to reports.
Reports emanating from Spain today suggest that the Gunners and the Reds have contacted Real Madrid over the possibility of signing highly-rated youngster Marco Asensio, according to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol.
The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most highly sought-after talents, after impressing for Los Blancos last term, despite not being given the opportunity of regular first-team action.
Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in action
The Spaniard scored 10 goals in 36 outings for Zinedine Zidane’s men last season, with 19 of those coming from the substitutes bench.
And Diario Gol claim that Arsenal and Liverpool are keen to bring the striker to England, although they will face competition in the race to sign him from Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus.
It could be argued, however, that Jürgen Klopp’s need for a striker is greater than Arsene Wenger’s, following the Gunners’ recent singing of Alexandre Lacazette for £52 million.
Asensio certainly has the quality to succeed in England, but as so often is the case with every foreign import, whether he has the mental fortitude and physical attributes to deal with the intense nature of the Premier League is what will determine his chances of success.
There will be only one way for us to find that out though…
