According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing Barcelona youngster Joel Lopez in the summer.

The 14-year-old is the latest in a long line of superb youngsters to have made a name for himself in Barca’s famed La Masia academy.

Sport claim that Liverpool and Arsenal are closely monitoring Lopez’s situation at the Camp Nou, due to the fact that he has not yet signed professional terms with the Spanish giants.

Lopez is a left-back by trade, and possesses pace in abundance. He contributes just as much in an attacking sense as he does defensively.

Being just 14-years-old, he obviously hasn’t yet developed into a mature athlete, so moving to England would present him with a real challenge from a physical perspective.

Arsenal have history in poaching some of Barca’s best young players. They brought Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin to the Emirates from La Masia, as well as Jon Toral.

Any move would be made with one eye on the future, but Lopez is obviously a real talent, and despite the risk associated with bringing him from Spain to England whilst he is still so young, it would be one worth taking.
