Liverpool find themselves clouded in uncertainty at the moment, and amid the drama, an interesting claim has been made about Jürgen Klopp and Darwin Nunez.

What’s the story?

Well, the Reds have been left shocked by the sudden resignation of Julian Ward – Director of Football at Anfield.

Ward had only just taken the reins from Michael Edwards, and with Fenway Sports Group (FSG) also looking to sell the club, Liverpool find themselves in a strange situation.

Ian Graham – Director of Research – has also quit.

When going into more detail regarding the situation, the Liverpool Echo revealed that Graham and others in the recruitment department had doubts over the signing of Nunez.

However, Klopp became obsessed with the Uruguay international during analysis sessions ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final clashes with Benfica.

Nunez scored 34 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese giants last season, and by the sounds of it, the German simply fell in love with what he was seeing from the 23-year-old.

Interestingly, the Liverpool Echo add that it would be a rare occurrence during the Edwards days for Klopp to basically overrule the analysis team.

Nunez was eventually signed despite those doubts, with Ward working to wrap up a £64m deal for the South American, who has scored nine goals in his first 18 appearances for Liverpool.

Liverpool must continue data driven approach despite Darwin Nunez deal

In our view, it would be madness if Liverpool moved away from their data driven recruitment strategy.

The Guardian believe Liverpool are thinking about ditching their current sporting model entirely amid the sudden mass exodus of key figures, a policy which has unearthed gems such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Luis Diaz for reasonable fees.

Liverpool have enjoyed plenty of success with their current approach, winning the Premier League, Champions League and other pieces of silverware since Klopp arrived.

Therefore, it would be very strange if that strategy was completely ripped up.
