Liverpool have reportedly backed out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic.

The highly-rated American is believed to have been a target for the Reds for a number of years, with their interest dating back to 2016.

Pulisic joined Borussia Dortmund as a 16-year-old in 2015 and has made 111 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, according to Transfermarkt, scoring 15 goals.

The 20-year-old was given the honour of captaining the United States in the 1-0 defeat to Italy in Belgium earlier this month, a testament to his talent and potential.

Pulisic, who is currently out with a muscular injury (Transfermarkt), has also not ruled out a January move away from the Westfalenstadion.

He told NBC Sports following the loss to the four-time world champions that “once the break comes, that is always when I will have to discuss with Dortmund and see about my future.”

According to Goal.com, however, Liverpool have cooled their interest in Pulisic, who is now believed to have a price tag of £70million.

The report adds that Chelsea, one of the Reds’ big Premier League rivals, have put the attacker at the top of their shopping list, while Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keen.

Given Liverpool already have Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in their ranks, perhaps there may not have been a place in the starting XI for Pulisic.

However, Reds fans will most likely not want to see the talented winger line up – and potentially score – against them in years to come.
