Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has told his club to appoint Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa as the new manager, according to The Sun.

Bielsa has guided Leeds to automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

It is the first time that the Whites will play in the top flight of English football since 2004.

However, Bielsa’s current contract with Leeds runs out this week, and he has yet to agree on a new deal, according to The Sun.

The British tabloid has claimed that Argentine forward Messi wants Barcelona to appoint his compatriot Bielsa as the club’s manager, with the report adding that the 33-year-old believes that the ‘ideal solution’ for the Blaugrana would be to bring Bielsa to Camp Nou.

Leeds United stay

Bielsa is one of the world’s best managers, and there is no surprise that Messi reportedly wants him to take charge of Barcelona.

However, having just taken the West Yorkshire outfit back to the Premier League and becoming a legend among the fans, it is hard to see the 65-year-old not stay at Elland Road for another season at least.

One suspects that Leeds and Bielsa will come to an agreement over a new contract soon.
