Reports emanating from Spain suggest that Sunderland are lining up a shock £13 million move for Barcelona star Aleix Vidal in January, as reported by Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo via the Chronicle.
The Black Cats have endured a woeful start to their Premier League campaign, and currently sit rock bottom of the table after two draws and five losses from their opening seven outings.
Defence is surely a key area of concern for David Moyes, with his side having already shipped 13 goals in the league this term.
Vidal in action for Barcelona
Mundo Deportivo claim that a whole host of Europe’s major clubs are interested in signing the 27-year-old Spaniard, including AC Milan and Inter Milan, as reported via the Chronicle.
Vidal moved to the Nou Camp from Sevilla in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of €18 million, which could potentially rise to €22 million.

He has been cast aside by Luis Enrique this term, however, and has made just one senior appearance for Barcelona.
At his age, and with the quality that he undoubtedly possesses, he will surely be looking for a move in order to gain more regular first-team football, should his current situation stay the same come January.
Whether he would consider a move to the Stadium of Light, however, is another matter entirely.
