The new Chelsea boss has been linked with other wing-backs including Kwadwo Asamoah in recent weeks.
Lichtsteiner has played for Juventus since 2011
Chelsea are to make a move for £12 million rated right wing back Stephan Lichtsteiner, according to the Sun.
New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will take over at Stamford Bridge after the Euros, and he is keen to be reunited with the Swiss defender.
Conte managed Lichtsteiner during his spell in charge at the Old Lady just a month after his own appointment in 2011, making him one of the current Italy boss’ first transfer dealings at Juventus.
Conte managed Lichtsteiner at the Old Lady.
And it is thought that Lichtsteiner, having won a Scudetto every year since joining the club – an unprecedented five straight titles – is now ready to seek pastures new, and Chelsea look like an ideal destination.
Lichtsteiner is one of the world’s most adept wing backs, having featured in that system for much of his time in Italy, and especially under the tenureship of Conte.
Juventus’ Kwadwo Asamoah (L) has also been linked to a reunion with his former boss Antonio Conte
With his link to the Blues, this will fuel speculation that Conte may well be about to bring the infamous Italian formation to England when he arrives at Chelsea in the summer.
He has been previously linked with other players used to a wing-back based formation, such as Juventus’ left sided player Kwadwo Asamoah.
Will Asamoah (Centre) and Lichtsteiner (Right) find themselves at Stamford Bridge this summer?
Indeed, the 3-5-2 is very much a rare beast in the English top flight, with its most recent exponent, Louis van Gaal, failing to use it effectively in a division accustomed to a back four.
However, it appears that Conte may well be willing to break the English taboo over a back three, and Stephan Lichtsteiner could be one player to help him do that.
