It is claimed the French side are under pressure to sell in January to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions, with Lucas Moura, Angel di Maria and Julian Draxler originally up for grabs.
But Sunday’s incident could see them focus on Cavani’s exit instead, although a move to Everton would not be without its obstacles.

Already in his 31st year, Cavani is said to earn £120,000-a-week after tax and would also want Champions League football – which the Toffees appear some way off achieving.
But Everton are perhaps better placed than Chelsea, for example, to offer the nine-goal striker first-choice status, having failed to properly replace last season’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku.
