According to The World Game in Australia, there has already been chatter from sources in Shanghai that Celtic are going to move for midfielder Aaron Mooy.

It’s stated that Shanghai Port are seemingly anticipating interest from Celtic and wouldn’t play hardball over a deal.

Mooy joined Shanghai Port in August 2020, but may already head back to the UK with a move to Celtic this summer.

Mooy’s history with Postecoglou

Celtic have just appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, so links to a number of Australian players always seemed inevitable.

Mooy is the latest, having played for Postecoglou with Australia, including at the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Mooy branded Postecoglou ‘intimidating’ in 2016, but the pair appeared to have something of a rift in 2017 when Postecoglou dropped Mooy without much explanation.

Do Celtic need Mooy?

Celtic need to find midfield reinforcements this summer having seen Scott Brown leave for Aberdeen, and Mooy does make some sense.

He’s experienced at 30 years of age, he has history of playing in Scotland with St Mirren and his wife is Scottish.

A move to Celtic does make sense for many reasons, but much will depend on the state of the relationship between Mooy and Postecoglou.
