Everton are reportedly keen on West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans.

According to The Sun, Everton are joining Manchester City in the race to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans in January – despite his £35million asking price.

Evans, 29, decided to leave Manchester United in 2015, joining West Brom after making nearly 200 appearances for United without ever really establishing himself as an important part of the defence at Old Trafford.

The Northern Ireland international’s move has paid dividends, as he has thrived with West Brom, becoming Tony Pulis’ defensive leader at the back, with more than 70 appearances for the Baggies to his name.

Evans’ performances for West Brom attracted major interest over the summer, and whilst they stood firm, it seems that he will be in demand once again during the January transfer window.

The Sun report that, not only are Manchester City ready to return with a new move for Evans despite missing out on a deal over the summer due to West Brom’s £35million asking price, but Everton are also keen.

The Toffees have been woeful defensively this season, and may see Evans as the ideal solution, given that he is a proven Premier League defender but isn’t yet in his 30’s, making him a potentially perfect partner for fellow ex-Manchester United defender Michael Keane.

With concerns over the ageing Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka, it seems that Everton are ready to spend big on a new centre back in January, and Farhad Moshiri’s money may now be put towards a big bid for Evans, as the managerless Toffees already look towards January.

The rumours are fascinating though, given that before Evans’ move to West Brom, The Guardian reported that Evans was on the verge of an £8million move to Everton, which ultimately fell through.

Now at more than four times the price, Everton are back for Evans again, if reports are to be believed – but fending off City could be difficult given their title aspirations this season.
