According to Le10sport, Lille have opened talks with Gent over a move for reported Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa target Jonathan David.

The Canadian striker is seemingly set for a move after a terrific campaign.

David notched 22 goals for Gent, attracting the interests of a host of top clubs.

According to a report by Walfoot in February, Tottenham and Aston Villa are among several Premier League clubs who have scouted him this season.

Belgium’s season ended early due to the global health pandemic and players such as David are expected to be sold to aid the financial burden on clubs.

Villa have struggled for goals in their fight for Premier League survival. The injury to Wesley hasn’t helped, while Mbwana Samatta hasn’t got going.

Villa’s summer transfer activity will surely depend on their top-flight status.

Tottenham, meanwhile, must prioritise a new striker signing this summer as Jose Mourinho’s side struggled for goals during Harry Kane’s absence with injury.

Spurs lack alternative centre-forward options and a different threat up top.

Lille, however, appear the most eager to secure a deal for David if reports are true.

French editorial Le10sport claim the club have opened talks with Gent as they seek a replacement for Victor Osimhen. Gent are said to demand a £22.5 million fee.

If Spurs are serious in their interest, they may have to step up their efforts swiftly.
