Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho made it a priority to sign a right-back this summer – and succeeded. Spurs forked out £15 million for Matt Doherty (Goal) and the Irishman’s arrival has pushed Serge Aurier down the pecking order.
The Ivorian, signed by Mauricio Pochettino in 2017, has had his fair share of criticism over the years. The 27-year-old is very good in attack but defensively has made a number of errors during the past two years.
Aurier has been heavily linked with a move away from north London in this window and, if reports are to be believed, a new club has entered the frame.
Foot Mercato claims Olympique Lyon have enquired about Aurier. The Ligue 1 giants need a right-back before the window closes in four days and the Spurs defender is their top target.
Tottenham are open to letting Aurier leave. However, Daniel Levy wants at least £18.2 million for the Ivorian, while Lyon face serious competition from AC Milan for his signature.

The Rossoneri seem to be Aurier’s preferred destination at the moment. The report claims the defender isn’t enamoured by the prospect of playing for Lyon, which makes the move unlikely even if they are prepared to meet Tottenham’s demands.
Aurier hasn’t played a single minute in the league this season. And, as long as Doherty is available, the Ivorian is unlikely to get game time under Mourinho, which makes a move away the best thing for all parties.
However, with time running out in this window, Lyon or Milan need to get a move on.
