Celtic are set to sign St Mirren playmaker Lewis Morgan this month.
According to Sky Sports, Celtic are set to tie up the signature of St Mirren star Lewis Morgan – and a loan move back to the Scottish Championship club isn’t quite a given yet.
Morgan, 21, started out his career in the youth ranks with Rangers, before leaving Ibrox in order to join St Mirren back in 2013, in a move which has really paid dividends over the last 18 months.
The midfielder hit 10 goals in 46 games for St Mirren last season, and has continued that superb form this term with 12 goals in 25 outings as Jack Ross’ side bid for promotion to the top flight.
Morgan’s contract comes to an end this summer though, meaning he will be free to pursue other avenues in his career – yet a January deal seems close.
Sky Sports report that Celtic are poised to secure a deal for Morgan, with St Mirren intending to take him on loan until the end of the season to aid their promotion push.
However, it’s noted Morgan may yet end up staying with Celtic once he signs, given that winger Jonny Hayes has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
Morgan could come in and take his spot, but St Mirren have said all along that Morgan would only be sold if he was allowed to return on loan until the summer.
It remains to be seen what happens regarding a return to the Scottish Championship side, but Celtic appear to have won the race for his signature despite interest from English clubs.
