Tottenham Hotspur pulled out of challenging Newcastle United in the race to sign Callum Wilson as the club felt the transfer was too risky at £20 million, Football London suggest.
Tottenham were linked with the Bournemouth striker, but Wilson’s poor injury record ended up putting them off.
Wilson has suffered two serious knee injuries over the course of his career, and when Newcastle submitted a bid of £20 million, Tottenham and Daniel Levy decided to walk away from the race to sign the England international.
Whether that will prove to be a wise move remains to be seen.
There is an expectation that Wilson will make Newcastle a much greater attacking threat this term after arriving.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are still on the hunt for a new forward to offer cover for Harry Kane.

Spurs were left desperately short up-front last season, when Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son were both sidelined.
And signing a new number nine seems to be one of Jose Mourinho’s side’s priorities for the rest of the transfer window.
