The Mail claim that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy still feels regret over selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City in 2017, despite raking in £45million for the England defender. Walker has gone on to become a club icon at The Etihad.
Walker, 32, has just touched down in Qatar with his England teammates ahead of their opener next Monday. England take on Iran at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. Then USA four days later, and Wales on November the 29th.
Having clocked up 229 appearances for Spurs after joining the London side from Sheffield United, he joined City in 2017. Since then, he has gone on to win 11 honours – including four League titles, four League Cups and an FA Cup.
Of course, Walker – branded “phenomenal” by Jose Mourinho – failed to win anything at Spurs. After Kieran Trippier left Spurs for Atletico Madrid, Spurs have failed to find a long-term right-back. Emerson Royal is currently first choice.
But on Saturday, the Brazilian defender was jeered off the pitch after another struggling performance in a 4-3 win over Leeds. The Mail claims Levy regrets the sale of Walker, who has become one of the League’s best-ever right-backs.

What Tottenham would do to have a player like Walker on the right side of their defence, right now. Royal is not the long-term answer despite only being bought from Barcelona in 2021. He has been left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad.
Could Walker ever return to Spurs? Well, he is out of contract at City at the end of the 2023-24 season. But given how crucial he is to City, the chances are he could sign a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s side at The Etihad in due course.
