Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ramping up their bid for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are likely to offer loan deals for Cameron Carter-Vickers and Joshua Onomah in their bid to sign Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish.
Villa missed out on promotion to the Premier League after a 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat to Fulham last month, and the knock-on effect may have grave consequences.
Villa are in a financial mess as a result of missing out on promotion, and may need to sell key assets in order to raise funds for new signings, with playmaker Jack Grealish primed for an exit.
The 22-year-old playmaker, who has come up through the ranks with his boyhood club, hit three goals and six assists this season and appeared to be hitting top form thanks to learning from wily veterans at Villa Park.
Now, Grealish looks set for a return to the Premier League, and The Telegraph report that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race – and appear to have a plan to beat Villa’s £40million asking price.
It’s claimed that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy doesn’t want to fork out £40million, and will subsequently offer players on loan to Villa, such as defender Cameron Carter-Vickers and Joshua Onomah.
United States international Carter-Vickers had spells with two Championship clubs last season having been loaned to Sheffield United and Ipswich Town, but could be available again this summer given that he is down the pecking under Mauricio Pochettino.
Meanwhile, midfielder Onomah did actually spend last season on loan with Villa, with the 21-year-old hitting four goals and three assists in 34 games for Steve Bruce’s men, with a return potentially on the cards.
It remains to be seen whether Villa would accept the duo, but Spurs appear to be pressing ahead with their bid for Grealish, as they attempt to find ways around the huge asking price on his head.
