Tottenham Hotspur made a massive statement in hiring Antonio Conte last week.
Conte has won a Premier League title and four other Serie A crowns during his time in Italy.
He was such a big appointment that he wouldn’t have accepted the role at Spurs unless certain promises were made.
And ESPN has this afternoon reported that the Italian was given ‘assurances’ that he could include Harry Kane in his long-term vision in North London.
With Kane almost leaving Tottenham this past summer, it was a big statement to make.
But ESPN also reported that Daniel Levy may yet break that promise, writing that a ‘huge offer’ from Manchester City – who are ‘preparing’ another move – in January could force the Lilywhites chairman into a ‘rethtink’.

Levy would be absolutely nuts to sell Kane if promises were indeed made to Conte.
The former Chelsea boss is very much a no-nonsense figure and it really isn’t unthinkable that he could walk out on Tottenham if the 28-year-old is sold without his approval.
It puts Levy in a difficult position because if City do break the bank to get him, and they lodge such an offer that makes it impossible to turn down, he risks isolating Conte in a big way.
Tottenham didn’t carry themselves in glory during the summer, particularly given Kane’s form this season.
But telling Conte one thing and then doing the other, mere months after his arrival, would take the biscuit in terms of short-sighted Levy decisions.
