Celtic reportedly have fears over whether Scott Brown will last the entire season.
The legendary Hoops captain turned 35 in June and 90 Min have this afternoon reported that the Parkhead club are concerned about him breaking down at some point between now and the end of the campaign.
As a result, the report claims that Celtic have earmarked Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy as his long-term replacement.
McCarthy, who was born in Glasgow and grew up supporting the Bhoys, joined the Eagles for £8.5 million last summer [Sky Sports].
The Republic of Ireland midfielder himself turns 30 in November but he is seen as an ideal successor for Brown, the report states.
Good replacement?
This would be a brilliant signing for Celtic, but it must be noted that Brown, despite his advancing years, remains a big player for the club.
This isn’t the first time that he’s been written off and probably won’t be the last, and Neil Lennon sees him every single day in training.
If Lennon decides that he’s fit and effective enough to last the campaign and skipper the troops to 10-in-a-row then that decision has to be respected.
