The Celtic manager Neil Lennon appears to have had his fears allayed.

Lennon expressed concern that the Bhoys right-back Jeremie Frimpong had damaged knee ligaments in Sunday’s 4-1 win at Motherwell.

Celtic are already without a pair of central defenders, Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer, and another injury would have left them stretched at the back.

But according to The Scottish Sun, a scan has revealed ‘no worrying issues’ for Frimpong, who suffered mere bruising after the challenge from Motherwell’s Devante Cole.

And the newspaper adds that Frimpong is expected to return for Celtic’s trip to Hibernian after the international break.

Hatem Abd Elhamed, who missed four of Celtic’s recent matches after testing positive for Covid-19, is the only natural cover Lennon has for the Netherlands youth international.

Frimpong arrived at Celtic in a £300,000 deal from Manchester City last summer and superseded two of his fellow recruits, Moritz Bauer and Abd Elhamed, as the Scottish Champions’ first-choice right-back.

He has appeared in all but one of Celtic’s 19 games this season, across all competitions.
