French newspaper L’Equipe have reported that German side RB Leipzig have agreed a £14million move to sign Montpellier defender Nordi Mukiele, just a month after he was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 20-year-old is said to be keen to move to the Bundesliga after the clubs agreed a fee for the versatile right-back, who can also play at centre-back and on the right side of midfield.
The former Stade Laval star has surpassed expectation this season by becoming a regular in the Montpellier side despite his tender age and missing just five Ligue 1 games all season – sidelined for the last three through injury.
The move could come as a blow to Spurs, after French outlet Le10Sport claimed Spurs had been regularly scouting the defender throughout the season ahead of a potential summer move.
A two-time France Under-21 international, Mukiele offers both speed and strength in equal measure and is regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in French football.
But like another Spurs target, Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard, Mukiele is now set to move to the Bundesliga from France as Leipzig continue to place their faith in signing Europe’s up-and-coming talents.
