Derby County are finally set to sign Leicester City’s Tom Lawrence as the forward undergoes a medical ahead of a £7m move, according to the Daily Mail.

This is despite the fact Sky Sports reported that the Rams had an offer for the same amount rejected by Leicester at the beginning of August.

However, at the time Foxes manager Craig Shakespeare was open to keeping Lawrence as part of his first team squad, but the 23-year-old has since asked to be allowed to leave in search of regular game time.

It means that Derby boss Gary Rowett will finally be able to add the speed and creativity to his attack that he has been seeking all summer following the departure of Tom Ince to Huddersfield Town.

Birmingham City value another target in Che Adams too highly for the Championship club, while Everton are reluctant to allow Ademola Lookman to leave on loan due to the Toffees’ Europa League commitments.

Liverpool’s Ryan Kent and Callum Robinson of Preston North End were also possibilities, but Lawrence – who scored 11 goals in 36 appearances while on loan at Ipswich Town last season – has been Rowett’s preferred choice for some time and has travelled to County’s Moor Farm training base to complete the deal.
