Leicester City have identified Paris Saint-Germain’s Sergio Rico as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel and, according to the Mirror, £8 million could be enough to get the deal done.
While Yassine Bono certainly enjoyed a ‘Beautiful Day’ between the sticks during the Europa League semi-final victory over Manchester United, all eyes will be on another Sevilla-owned goalkeeper on Tuesday night.
Rico is due to make just his tenth appearance in PSG colours when the French giants take on RB Leipzig for a place in the Champions League decider, thrust into the starting XI due to Keylor Navas’s ill-timed injury.
Whatever happens in Lisbon, however, the Spaniard’s future is destined to remain up in the air as the rumour mill spins into life.
Rico will return to parent club Sevilla at the end of August but, with Bono proving that he is a more than able deputy for number one Tomas Vaclik, it seems that there is one goalkeeper too many at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
So perhaps a second spell in England could be on the cards for a man who, endured a rather forgettable spell at Fulham in 2018/19.
The Mirror claims that Leicester see Rico as a cut-price option if Kasper Schmeichel is tempted by the prospect of emulating Big Pete’s starfish pose at Old Trafford.
“I watched Sergio Rico when I played against Sevilla [during a Champions League clash against Leicester], and for me he’s a very good goalkeeper,” Foxes legend Claudio Ranieri told Sky during his brief spell in charge at Craven Cottage last year.
