Leicester City are looking into signing former Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven N’Zonzi from Seville, according to the Telegraph.

The report suggests the Premier League champions could break N’Zonzi’s release clause of £25 million to push through the deal.

The Foxes have already added Nampalys Mendy from Nice for big money, replacing France international N’Golo Kante after his sensational and title-winning single season at the King Power Stadium.

But it is certainly sensible for Ranieri to be looking at strengthening that area of the team, with Mendy suffering an injury in the draw with Arsenal and N’Zonzi’s familiarity with English football. The former Potter had his own impressive season with Sevilla last year that ended up with the Spanish side winning an unprecedented third Europa League in a row.

With that defensive midfield position of huge importance to the way Leicester played last season, giving the freedom for the club’s more attacking players to push forward, bringing in N’Zonzi and Mendy for roughly the amount of money the Foxes received from Chelsea for Kante should set the Premier League champs up well for another top four challenge as well as the Champions League football heading their way this season.

Leicester considered the 27-year-old earlier in the summer, along with a number of other Premier League big hitters, said the Sun, but it appears as if they have returned to the player with less than a week of the transfer window remaining.
