Leicester City are targeting a trio of Premier League defenders this summer with Jannik Vestergaard, Nathan Ake and James Tarkowski all in the Foxes’ sights, according to Ekstra Bladet.
As anyone in football will tell you, you need more than a solid starting XI if you’re to succeed on a number of fronts.
And with Leicester hoping to balance Premier League and Champions League football in 2020/21, Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to add some quantity to the quality at his disposal.
Only runaway leaders Liverpool have conceded fewer goals than the Midland giants this season with Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu in the form of their life at the King Power Stadium.
But there is a lack of depth in reserve, with third-choice centre-back Wes Morgan set to be 37 this time next year.
So few will be surprised to learn that Leicester have renewed their interest in giant Dane Vestergaard.
The former Bundesliga hero was a £22.5 million target for the Foxes in January and, though Southampton blocked the deal at the time, Leicester are still hopeful that a deal can be done.

Though Vestergaard is not the only top-flight centre-back on Rodgers’ radar.
Ekstra Bladet reports that Dutch international Ake (below) is also a target. The £20 million stopper looks the perfect fit for a Rodgers team, combining superb reading of the game with the passing range of a seasoned midfielder.
Leicester could also be tempted to return for another technically gifted centre-back, England ace Tarkowski.
Burnley demanded a staggering £40 million when the Foxes came calling last summer (The Sun, 16 December, page 59) and it remains to be seen how much they will demand for Tarkowski this time around.
