Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu as a replacement for Milan Skriniar, with Tottenham believed to be chasing the Slovakian centre-back.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turkish international is on Inter’s radar as the prospect of Skriniar leaving the San Siro grows with each passing day, with the defender actually close to leaving the club in the summer in a reported £70m deal to PSG. However, the transfer collapsed at the final hurdle.

Tottenham are also reportedly interested in Skriniar, but it appears that Antonio Conte’s interest in his former defender was waned over the past few weeks, with PSG now in the driving seat to sign the Inter superstar, and the Nerazzurri have now identified Soyuncu as a replacement.

The centre-back is yet to play for Leicester this season as Brenden Rodgers’ side sit rock bottom of the Premier League table, with the Foxes’ defensive record one of the worst in the division this campaign as pressure begins to mount on the former Celtic manager. And Soyuncu could have the last laugh if he signs for Inter.

Indeed, the 26-year-old is a good defender who has enjoyed some bright moments with Leicester over the years, and signing for Inter could be an exciting move for Soyuncu, with Serie A a great division for the former Freiburg star to elevate his game,

Whilst a transfer completely hinges on Skriniar leaving in January, the Slovak’s lack of intention to sign a new contract could see the defender leave in the winter, allowing Inter to move for Soyuncu and to leave Tottenham empty-handed in the window.

Inter signing Soyuncu would be quite the career move for the defender

From not playing a second for the worst team in the Premier League this season to stepping out for a UEFA Champions League contender and one of Europe’s biggest clubs would be quite the switch for any player, yet this could be what happens to Soyuncu if the Leicester outcast signs for Inter this January.

It’s easy to forget just how good the defender once was, with Soyuncu being named in the 2020 PFA Team of the Year alongside Virgil van Dijk when the Liverpool star was arguably at his peak. Inter will be a great club to rediscover the centre-back’s talents, and for the player himself, it is a move he will be desperate to make.
