Roma winger Cengiz Under could miss out on a move to the Premier League with Leicester City reluctant to pay more than £20 million for a man Newcastle United only want on loan, according to Calciomercato.

During an impressive 2017/18 season, Roma fans must have thought they had one of the most exciting young forwards in European football at their disposal.

But, while Under dazzled en route to the Champions League semi-finals, the Turkey international hasn’t come close to building on that exceptional debut season at the Stadio Olimpico.

So much so that, according to Calciomercato, Roma are open to offers for a man who started just ten Serie A games under Paulo Fonseca last term.

Finding a buyer, however, is proving to be easier said than done.

A move to Napoli fell through because of what Calciomercato refers to as “excessive demands”.

Leicester, meanwhile, aren’t going to pay a penny more than £20 million for a forward who has scored fewer goals in the past two seasons combined (six) than he did in 2017/18 alone.

On Tyneside, Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has prioritised tried and trusted Premier League performers such as Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Jeff Hendrick and Jamal Lewis.

And, with funds tighter than ever after a failed takeover and an ongoing financial crisis, the Magpies are unwilling to even consider a permanent deal for the out-of-form, out-of-favour Under.
