Leicester City are keen to sign Braga ace David Carmo after being impressed by the £35 million centre-half during a Europa League clash earlier this season, as reported by O Jogo.
Clearly, the 21-year-old powerhouse of a defender made quite the impression on Brendan Rodgers.
Leicester turned on the style as they thrashed Braga 4-0 at the King Power Stadium in November but, despite being given something of a runaround by Kelechi Iheanacho and co, Carmo still did enough on the night to show why he has sent scouts from all over Europe into a frenzy.
“He’s a young player, with an excellent profile: he’s tall , strong and aggressive. Yes, he has all the conditions to play in the Premier League,” Rodgers said after the game, as reported by O Jogo.
“Portugal produces fantastic players for the Premier League and he is no exception. With a little more preparation, I believe that he will have no difficulties playing in the Premier League.”
According to reports in his native Iberia, Carmo could be offered the opportunity to prove Rodgers right sooner rather than later.
Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with the so-called ‘Portuguese Van Dijk‘, who has drawn comparisons with the totemic Dutchman due to his commanding aerial presence and penchant for a raking, cross-field diagonal.
Leicester are keen too although, with a £35 million release clause in his contract, Carmo will not come cheap (A Bola).
As the £36 million signing of Wesley Fofana shows, Rodgers’ Foxes have no qualms about investing huge sums in young players with the potential to reach the very top of the game.
Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Iheanacho all joined Leicester for substantial fees.
